4 Cool Ways to Make Your Wedding More Eco Friendly
February 14, 2019
An increasing number of couples are looking at ways they can make their big day more eco friendly. Let’s face it, the majority of weddings don’t really tick the ‘environmentally friendly’ box! From the carbon footprint of guests from all over the country (sometimes the world) getting to the venue to the single use decor and throwaway food packaging, there can be a bit of climb to make your wedding truly eco friendly!
So we’ve put together a list of a few things you can be thinking about when you’re sat together planning with that glass of wine in your hand. Here they are:
1. A nearby venue
The largest carbon footprint for your wedding will likely be the travel element. That is, from how far people need to come in order to get to the venue. If you can find somewhere that’s close to the majority of the guests, then this will likely be your biggest win.
2. Eco friendly dinnerware
Obviously we’ve got to push this one! Dinnerware like our palm leaf plates, can be a great way to make your wedding more eco friendly. In a nutshell:
No trees cut down to make them
You’ll be reducing the need to wash and clean up after the event too, as they can be simply recycled naturally back into the earth after they’re used.
And on top of all that, they’re very cool in appearance too – each one has its own completely unique natural pattern, awesome right?
Interestingly, these are still not that common. There’s something about a paper or card invite that people still love receiving. However, if it’s eco friendly you’re after, why not consider sending out electronic (email) invites instead?
Firstly, it’s cheaper! No need to print and post – just create your email design and you’re done! There’s also no need for these to be anymore boring than paper invites – you can link them to your own wedding website and even include things like a cute video of you both too! No trees to cut down to make them and your friends are always on email on their phone, so the RSVP will be cinch. Boom!
Traditionally, the bride’s arrival in the wedding car is part of the day. It’s also likely that the majority of guests will drive to the venue and if the reception is at a different place, they’ll drive there too – and get a taxi home on some occasions. Definitely not eco friendly!
So why not consider putting on coaches for the guests? Everyone can get on one or two coaches and suddenly you’ve saved all those carbon emissions. These can also be a really fun experience on the day.
We hope you’ve loved these ideas. Feel free to let us know of any others you can think of!
