Palm leaf plate production process
We want to be as transparent with our customers as we can be. That’s why below, we’ve outlined our entire production process for making our awesome palm leaf plates. If you’d like more information, please feel free to contact us. We’d love to hear from you!

1. Leaf Collection
Long before you’re eating your favourite entree, we’re collecting the fallen leaves to start the process. Each palm tree will shed 1-2 leaves per month and unlike lots of other wood-like products, we don’t need to cut down any trees to make our palm leaf plates.

2. Washing
Once we’ve collected the palm leaves and brought them back to our factory, we then thoroughly high pressure wash them with water. No chemicals are used in the cleaning process.

3. Moisture
In order to make the mould process simpler, we then keep the leaves a little moist after the washing process. We’ll let them sit for around 1-2 hours inside the factory before moving on to the next step.

4. Heat
This is when the leaves start becoming palm leaf plates! We heat them to over 100 degrees and then press it into a plate shape using our preset moulds.

5. Trim
Next, we trim the edges of every plate. By holding them gently next to our trimming machine, we steadily moving the plate around each edge and remove all jagged edges so that the end result is a super smooth, sleek edged plate.

6. Surface brush
Once the edges are perfect, we then make sure the surfaces are just as smooth. Using hand brushes made from natural coral, we gently brush the surface of each plate to remove any spots or dirt (don’t forget it’s a natural product!) and make sure the finish is extra smooth and clean.

7. Dust removal
Once we’ve smoothed the edges and the surfaces of each plate, we then remove any leftover wood dust using cotton and woollen cloths.

8. Into the oven!
We then put the plates into the oven, for around 8 – 10 hours at 70 degrees celsius in order to remove the remaining moisture and bacteria.

9. Thorough quality control
Almost there now! And this part is really important to us. We thoroughly quality check every single plate and cast aside ones that don’t meet our standards and those expected by our customers. At this point we’re getting rid of warped and mouldy plates and keeping only the best for the packing process.

10. Packing
Finally, the packing process. We collect the plates into stacks and pack them into our beautifully branded packaging.
